We met working at a restaurant in our early 20's and became
(unlikely to some) deep and dear friends. Of course there were tears. Of course there
was catching up. I don't usually scroll in bed, especially first thing in the morning, but this day I did. The very first post was the video of Alex Pretti being murdered in the street in Minneapolis. Beyond horrifying. The second post was an Amazon add for jeans that will flatten my stomach and lift my butt. </span></p><div style="margin:
0px;"> </div><div style="margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>2.</strong></span><br/><span style="font-size:16px;">The whiplash was intense. It was as if the algorithmic overlords were saying "Don't look at the lawless terrorizing and murder, the real problem is your flabby belly and drooping ass. Give us money, we will fix that for you." </span></div><div style="margin: 0px;"> </div><div style="margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>3</strong>.</span><br/><span style="font-size:16px;">No, I don't think you will. Setting aside the cultural obsession with the perfectly bodied woman (and the false promises being sold through a pair of jeans), my money and life force are so much better spent helping us survive a county in a free fall into the deeper authoritarianism. </span></div><div style="margin: 0px;"> </div><div style="margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size:16px;">So what do you do
when it feels like it is too much to care as deeply as you do?</span></div><div style="margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size:16px;">Care anyway. Release your tears into the river. Move your body to your favorite music. Look at beautiful art. Make art. Share it. Build a shrine to hold what is sacred. Here we are, under very unflattering lighting waiting for the train to take us home. Forget how deep it really is. Get annoyed, wonder if it is all worth it. Of course you will because love holds everything. Love is still there, even when the emotions and snarls of life are in the forefront. When it comes to the fore again, it
will surprise and yet not surprise you with its warmth and comfort. </span></div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;"> </div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>2.</strong></span></div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size:16px;">If you love deeply, grief will come visiting. It will stay too and it will feel as if it is squeezing the breath out of you. You will add an extra room to the mansion of your
heart and it will move in. At first you will think you can not bare its presence, but over time you will come to appreciate how it tends to your forgotten memories and beloveds no longer here. </span></div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;"> </div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>3.</strong></span></div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;">Most days are like this day, in between the two. Love flowing gently, grief flowing
tenderly, each connecting you to what is meaningful and dear, even when that is changing or moving on.</div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;"> </div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>4.</strong></span></div><div style="line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px;">Both love and grief have space for the flow of life and all the things that includes. Love has us able to survive the crush of raw grief, and our grief honors the eternal nature of love
