One of the things the time off over my birthday in June opened for me was the need
for more intentional rest and liminal space for soul care. I am expermenting with taking some seasonal time away. Not in a big vacation kind of way or forced slowing down because of burnout or illness, but to let natural rhythms and kairos time lead for a bit.
Is this selfish? Am I being irresponsible? Lazy? Or am I answering a deep longing? It feels like deep soul tending to me. I'll be stepping back from some ordinary life things begining Monday for a couple of weeks to give space for the liminal to lead a bit.
Part of this is taking a wee break from writing to you, but I'll be back here in your inbox the last Friday in September. I'll be sharing bits of the journey over on Patreon if you want follow along. FYI, you can follow me there without joining and have access to my public posts.
I'll include details down below.
Here are a some things that will be forming my fall sabbatical. What might be calling to you to rest, rest and renew?
1.
Sleep. Naps. Daydreaming. Having chronic sleep problems takes a toll. I find that when I can disconnect from all alarms or timetables my rest regulates,
along with my emotions. I feel so much better. When this happens my ability to daydream, imagine, vision, increases and new paths open, clarity arises, inspiration can flow.
I forget how much rest is needed, how much
rest is the foundation of everything. Are you well rested? You don't need permission or to earn it. What will help you rest, just because?
2.
Photo walks and nature bathing. I'm one of those that does not enjoy summer. Come September and the shifting light, the intensity of the changing colors, the crisp mornings and warm afternoons, it all brings me back from my summer hibernation mode. Meandering walks with camera in hand is a way I savor this time and its details.
Savoring is a greatly underutilized skill. We rush entirely too much. What helps you slow down and be with the beauty of the world?
3.
Cafe time. I miss bringing a notebook and cozying up in a corner of a coffee shop with some tea and a sweet treat. There is something about taking private time in public that gets my creative mind turning in a different way. I can't do detail work but it is a great way for me to get new ideas
and plan.
What environments help you bring new ideas into form?
4.
Creative practice. Always and forever. It doesn't need to be good. It doesn't need to be "Art". Or useful. Or kept. Or mean anything. I can be all of these things but the healing doesn't happen from results. The nourishment and healing happen in the doing, allowing, and
feeling.
What is your creative practice? If "creative" is not a word you resonate with, drop it. What is your practice for self-expression?
5.
A blessing for your week:

May our thoughts bring you clarity, peace, and wholeness.
Until next time, Sandi
