five things friday: sorting, roots, gifts of the algorithm

Hello there,
It is lovely to be back writing
to you again after my little break. It's always nice to take some intentional time away from normal routines and see how time and attention wants to move.
As I find my way back to a more structured rhythm this week I am carrying some of the gems found during my respite. Nothing grand, but often it is the subtle and ordinary noticing of life found in relaxed time that is the best
nourishment for a tired soul.
Please enjoy, and perhaps find some gems in your own relaxed time.
1.
Some do puzzles, I sort beads. Meditation takes many forms.
I know it has Psyche's punishment from Aphrodite vibes, but sorting all the pretty colors is soothing and grounding.
Are you a traditional
mediator, or are your centering and grounding practices different than what is normally thought of as mediation? It all counts and is all valid.
2.
Sometimes the internet algorithm actually gives you want that you didn't know you needed.
One of my goals
this year is to use more of my fabric stash and expand my quilting and stitching skill into a more improvisational, less traditional style.
I first came across Zak's improvisational way of quilting and honoring life through a Making Zen online stitching event some years ago. I was deeply moved by the story of his burial quilts and his stories of how stitching and making is for everyone
regardless of background or ability. I've joined his online community, The Quilty Nook, and am curiously eyeing stash and imagining what kinds of stories are waiting to be told through my hands and stacks of material.
Our lives are held in fabric.
(Seriously, click on
this link to the burial quilt video. It is not sad but charming and affirming.)
3.
While doing some garden clean up I moved this flourishing potted geranium up from the ground where it spent the winter
and discovered that its roots had grown out of the bottom of the pot and into the earth below.
Yes, a bigger pot for this lovely is coming, but also, look how lush and gorgeous it is with
fresh rain drops adorning it! Also, also, I can't help but reflect on the life metaphor its seeking roots offers.
We can and will grow out of confines of life circumstances and limitations in order to grow and flourish. We will send seeking roots out of our contained ways to feed our bodies and potential.
4.
Like roots from the past reaching into the present, I found this little poem written many Springs ago. Seems a good reminder to follow the wisdom of your heart in all things.
Let love bind you let its knots restrain any movement away
Let devotion be the bridle that guides all things freeing you to journey the path meant only for you
5.
A blessing for your week:

May you find joy in the ordinary gems of living. (Also, may random rainbows of beauty dance through your life.)
