As I pulled the blessing card
for this week I wondered if it was too...sweet... for these times we are going through. (Halloween, spooky vibe not withstanding.) Then I caught myself trivializing one the more potent energies for change and transformation. What can be more needed in these times we are going through? So I offer you some thoughts and a little magic on hope.
Shall we?
1.
Hope has us believe that something better is possible.
It is not a guarantee, but a possibility that renews and sustains our faith in what is good and
beautiful. We need our hope to be a beacon that guides us to what is true and just, what is generative and sustaining, what is whole.
It may not be all we need but it an essential part of what we need.
2.
Hope is not fool's gold nor a
panacea.
It is not a magic potion that saves us from the harshness of life nor it does deny the tragedies of living. It reminds us that even in our most direr moments there exists something more. It emboldens us to act in service of our grander visions and ideals. It lifts us to follow the path of heart and meaning.
While magic, hope can be very magical.
3.
In our jaded world hope can be seen as futile, or naive.
Or worse, seen as trivializing or dismissing
the reality of the present. Kind of like a sibling to the "love and light" and "everything happens for a reason" family of spiritual bypassing. What fuels the struggle for something better then? Of course much change is attempted out of revenge, hate, or entitlement resulting in more discord and harm.Yet, to hope and strive for a better world is to bring hope's glory into being.
In a jaded, hurting world there is nothing more revolutionary than to hope despite evidence against it.
4.
Hope is vulnerable.
It asks us to open our heart in the mists of pain and trust we will not be flattened. It is a bold and courageous emotion because to hope in the face of adversity is to risk disappointment and failure.
We must risk loss and the pain of nothing changing as we want.
How can we live in a world so flawed and full of pain? Where the belief in the ability to create something better slips away with each new injustice and disaster? Hold tight to hope. Let hope illuminate the places of potential. Walk with hope as a path builder to a more generous, loving, and peaceful world. Trust that hope has the
strength to carry the burdens this flawed world and its people have placed on it.
Hope is eternal, patient, and always waiting for us to invite it in. If you can't find it, look to those who have it. It is very contagious.
Where do you find hope?
5.
A blessing for your week:

May hope transform you.
